AnySlate's interface is designed to be intuitive yet powerful. This guide will help you understand each part of the interface and how to customize it for your workflow.
Main Layout
Interface Areas
Sidebar
File browser with local files, cloud files, favorites, and recent documents. Toggle with ⌘/Ctrl + \.
Tab Bar
Open multiple documents in tabs. Pin important files, drag to reorder, and close with middle-click.
Editor Pane
Write your Markdown with syntax highlighting, autocomplete, and smart editing features.
Preview Pane
See your Markdown rendered in real-time. Scroll syncs with the editor.
Status Bar
Bottom bar showing document info and quick actions.
Toolbar
Top bar with formatting buttons, view mode toggles, and settings access.
Sidebar Sections
Local Files
Browse files in your workspace folders. Add folders, create files, and organize with drag-and-drop.
Cloud Files
Access documents stored in the cloud. These sync across all your devices.
Favorites
Quick access to starred files. Right-click any file and select 'Add to Favorites'.
Recent
Recently opened files for quick access. Automatically tracks your history.
View Modes
Switch between different layouts to match your workflow. Use the view mode buttons in the toolbar or keyboard shortcuts.
Editor Only

Customizing the Interface
Open Settings (⌘/Ctrl + ,) to customize:
- Sidebar width: Drag the edge to resize
- Preview pane size: Drag the divider between editor and preview
- Theme: Light, dark, or follow system
- Font size: Adjust editor and preview fonts separately
- Line numbers: Show or hide in the editor
- Status bar: Toggle visibility
Pro Tips
Quick Switcher
Press ⌘/Ctrl + P to quickly jump to any file. Type a few letters and press Enter.
Focus Mode
For distraction-free writing, try Focus Mode. Access it from View → Focus Mode or use the keyboard shortcut.
Zen Mode
Hide all UI elements except the editor with View → Zen Mode. Press Escape to exit.
